Royston Club Press Releases
2010 National
BMX Series Rounds 11 and 12
The final two
rounds of the National BMX 2010 summer series over the Bank holiday
weekend took place on the south coast track of the Bournemouth BMX
Club. Due to holidays only seven members of the Royston Rockets made
the journey with both success and disappointment in plenty at both
rounds which attracted over 400 riders from across the UK with round
11 of the series was held on Saturday whilst Sunday saw the riders
competing in round 12 to complete the 2010 series. The racing was
very competitive and the weather just about stayed on the good side
to enable the riders to perform to their best.
Highlight of
Saturdays racing came with “Masters” class rider Richard Townsend
who took his first national win in 26 years of BMX racing and
followed this with a 6th on Sunday in a class that the
commentators have claimed is the most competitive of the year. In
the Veteran (40+) class Lee Alexander again showed the pack how to
ride the track with a clear win in Saturdays A final only to get one
jump badly wrong in his Cruiser 40-44yr semi final to end his days
competitive racing although through a quirk of the race points
system de did end up taking 3rd in the Veterans category.
Royston’s
youngest riders at the event were competing in the 10yr class
Royston and the trio had every experience possible with Daniel
Blanche crashing out of practice and not even being able to make the
start gate and in the class semi finals Ethan Vernon took a heavy
fall although still managed to get back on his bike and battle back
to a qualifying position before the pain hit and stopped him taking
any further part in the weekends events leaving just Myles Fisher to
fly the club flag with a 7th place in the A final on
Saturday and one place higher in 6th on the Sunday. In
the 11yr class, Aaron Dalleywater continued the crashing theme on
both days but did leave it until the A finals to have his incidents
so he recorded 8th place on both days. Competing on
Sunday only in the 14’s James Handleigh just missed qualification
for the main final but still went home with 7th place B
final points to add to his seasons tally.
The Rockets
are running their regular Tuesday night sessions from 6.00pm until
dark for a few more weeks as the nights draw in at their track in
Royston’s Burns Road. Full details of forthcoming club and regional
events will be published soon on the club web site at
www.roystonrockets.co.uk, or ring 01763 260959 for more
information on BMX racing.
2010 National
BMX Series Rounds 9 and 10
and BMX East
Regional Round 8
The Rockets
have been competing at National and Regional BMX 2010 Summer Series
events in the last two weeks with a trip to the new south coast
track of the Gosport BMX Club last weekend for rounds 9 and 10 of
the national series and this weekend to the rescheduled Regional
series event hosted by the Ipswich BMX Club but actually run on the
Braintree club’s track The Royston members had success at all the
events which attracted almost 500 riders from across the UK for the
national the series held on the Saturday and Sunday whilst the
regional event had almost 120 riders competing in the penultimate
round of the series.
The national
racing was close, fast and very competitive on the Gosport track
which is unusual in shape as it has two more straights and corners
than the majority of venues and Royston’s youngest rider in the 9
year, Ted Dalleywater was able to move out of the qualifying races
to the semi finals and ended up taking 7th in the B final
on the Saturday but was unable to repeat the feat on Sunday. In the
10yr class Royston had two riders with Ethan Vernon taking a 2nd
place on both Saturday and Sunday whilst Myles Fisher took his
racing up a notch with 5th place in the A finals on
Saturday but fell whilst trying to take 4th place in
Sundays A final, eventually coming in a dusty 8th., Aaron
Dalleywater, in the 11yr class had a poor day by his standards on
Saturday but managed to take the win in the B final but was back to
form on Sunday with a hard earned 2nd in the A final. The
15yr class saw Royston’s Jordan Godfrey trying his skills at
national level although he was unable to move out of the
qualification rounds on either day following a fall whilst Andrew
Brooker, competing in the 16 yr class was unable to qualify for the
semi finals on Saturday but retuned to form with 4th
place in the class B final on Sunday. In the “Masters” class,
Richard Townsend took a clear win in Saturdays B final and followed
that with a 6th in Sundays A final.
Royston
Rockets had nineteen riders taking part across all age classes in
the Regional series event on Sunday 15th Aug) starting
with the 7 and Under novices where Royston’s Callum Barrow took the
first place with Brendan Salmon finishing in 3rd whilst

which was the same positioned achieved by Ted Dalleywater in the 9
year class who was just behind James King who took 2nd
with team mates Benjamin Mansfield in 8th and Marmaduke
Birt taking the B final win. The 10 year class saw the Rockets lead
the pack all day with Miles Fisher taking a third consecutive win

second. The 12 year category saw Matthew Harris claim 6th

2nd in the B final and David Thompson in the 25-29
category took the class win and in the Vets (40+) class the win went
to Royston’s Lee Alexander, who also took another win in the Cruiser
40-44 class, with Darren Foreman in 2nd and in the
cruiser classes Matt Salmon took 4th in the 35-39 class
whilst Carl Birt took another win for the club in the 45+ class.

The seventh

clouds were around all day the rain only came for one short sharp
period which happily coincided with a natural break in the action.
Royston
Rockets had eighteen riders taking part across all age classes
starting with the 7 and Under novices where Royston’s Callum Barrow
took the first place with Brendan Salmon finishing in 3rd
whilst in the 8yr Expert category Alfie Salmon finish in 2nd
which was the same positioned achieved by Ted Dalleywater in the 9
year class. The 10 year class saw the Rockets lead the pack all day

the 11 year class with Ethan Vernon taking the win ahead of Aaron

2010
National BMX Series Rounds 7 and 8
The National
BMX 2010 summer series moved to the North West last weekend as the
Manchester BMX Club hosted rounds 7 and 8 of the series. The Royston
members had success at both rounds which attracted almost 500 riders
from across the UK with round 7 of the series was held on Saturday
whilst Sunday saw the riders competing in round 8
The racing
was close, fast and very competitive on the 400m long track and
Royston’s young riders in the 9 year class worked hard to gain
points for their series rankings but neither Ted Dalleywater or
Marmaduke Birt were able to move out of the qualifying races on
either day. In the 10yr class Royston had a trio of riders with
Ethan Vernon taking a 2nd place on both Saturday and
Sunday whilst Daniel Blanche also made the A final on both days with
two 7th places and Myles Fisher took 8th place
in the B finals of both rounds. In the 11yr class, Aaron Dalleywater
had a poor day by his standards on Saturday but still managed to
take 8th place in the B final but was unable to stay to
compete on Sunday whilst in the 14’s James Handleigh just missed
qualification for the semi finals on both days and Andrew Brooker in
the 16 yr class continued to hone his race skills with 5th
and 4th places in the class B finals. Competing in the
“Masters” class was Richard Townsend where he finished with 3rd in
Saturdays B final and improved to 2nd in Sundays B final. In the
Over 45 year cruiser classes Carl Birt took home two 7th
places and in the Veteran (40+) class Lee Alexander again showed the
pack how to ride the track with a clear win in Saturdays A final
only to aggravate an old injury in Sundays practice which curtailed
his days racing..
The Rockets
are running their regular Tuesday night sessions from 6.00pm til
dark and are hosting the sixth round of the East Anglia Region
Summer Series on July 25th at their track in Royston
Burns Road with around 150 riders expected to attend. Full details

East Anglia BMX
Regional Series Round 5
The fifth
round of the East Anglia BMX 2010 Summer Series was held at the

warm and just got hotter for the 120 plus competitors at the event
which the club planned to run earlier than normal as they had set up
a TV for the England match!
The racing
however was very competitive throughout the day for the nineteen
riders from Royston who had four winners on the day with one of the
clubs newest members making his first trip away from Royston, Daniel
Biggs, taking first in the 7 and Under Novice class and wins also
went to Daniel Blanche in the 10yr class, Ethan Vernon11 yr class

other podium places also came Royston’s way with second places going
to Ted Dalleywater in the 9yr class, Myles Fisher in the 10yr class,

possibly fastest class of the day.

hold their regular Tuesday night sessions from 6.00pm and the sixth
Round of the East Anglia Region Series is on July 25th at
the Rockets home track in Burns Road, Royston and before that on
