Norwich Club Press Releases

Lots of new talent from the Flyers at EA Open Club Championships @ Norwich.

WOW what an event that was!
134 riders in scorching mid summer heat only three days away from October!
Riders came from across the region and from as far away as Doncaster and Harworth to compete on our top class National Standard Track.
Norwich Flyers sported many new riders trying racing for the first time and boy do we have some new talent!

The day started with the Streetlife Cycles manual competition. Tim Machin had been bragging on the net that he could manual our last straight easily and probably all of the other straights too! Well it didn't prove to be quite that easy for him but Tim's confidence was well placed with honourable mentions going to locals Scooby, Josh Cheetham and Sir Hilly but Tim cleaned the whole rhythm section and grabbed the cash. Congrats Tim and our thanks once again to Streetlife Cycles.

The mighty six and unders saw Kyle Hill take a well ridden sixth place with the first of Norwich's new riders Jake Jones taking a fine 2nd in the B final, watch out world!

Norwich's rider of the day award must go to young Morgan Dorrell in the 7 and under females. Morgan riding in her very first BMX race managed a stunning 2nd place! The new Joey Gough? could just be!

The 7-8 year olds saw the return of Thomas Gorman from his goalkeeping exploits, a stylish ride to 4th showing he still has the knack of this BMX thing.

Female 16 and overs and Rebecca Vaughan made her return to the track (and clips) against some very hot opposition namely Ipswich's Ria Goodman X National Junior Female numero uno amongst the field. Ria took the win but Becca was never too far behind, will she concentrate a bit more on her racing and take the challenge to Ria in 25+ ladies next year? Watch this space! Norwich’s new local Katie Roberts came home third looking good in her new surroundings.

Abi Hill still suffering from an injured wrist admirably rode through the pain to take the ladies 25 and over class.

Watching all the top riders at his first big event at Cheddar the previous weekend obviously had a positive effect on Fergus Barker in the 12's who rode too a fantastic third place, watch out for him next year!

In the thirteens two new Norwich riders made their racing debuts, Liam Mackie and Jamie Newton impressed by both making the A main and taking 6th & 7th respectively, way to go guys.

Liam Harcourt also making his debut stormed to 2nd place in the 13's age group, yet another Norwich rider to watch out for in the future.

Male 14's and yet again two new Norwich riders giving racing a go for the first time, Aiden Barker even managed to holeshot his first moto although a hard fall meant he eventually finished further down than he deserved, Deklan Harrowing put all the practise he has had on the track over the last few weekends into good practise by finishing 6th.

Our older/ageing riders also shined through with Hardcore Hobbies mogul Jay Mills taking second place in the masters. Our new 45+ national champion Adie Warden decided on a punishing schedule of riding both masters and 45+ cruisers, which must have been draining on our long track in such heat, 4th in the masters and taking the win for the day on crowzer!

To put the icing on a very sweet cake our newly crowned British Champion Sir Alan of Hill took the main class of the day 17+ with the usual storming Hilly cornering taking Ipswich's lightening fast Robbie Goodman in turn 2 and then leaving his years behind him to out drag Rotherham's Grant Hill by an inch or two at the finish. Classic Stuff!

After this came the usual organised chaos that is the EA Club Championships Relay. Crashes, disqualifications, cheating!? and all the usual fun and games ensued with Ipswich eventually ending up victorious, Id like to say that they walked off with the trophy but such was the chaos attached too this bit of fun event that nobody seems too know where it went!

The day was rounded off with the presentation of some wicked trophies sponsored by our generous project partners Barclays Spaces for Sports. Our friends at Braintree BMX Club briefly showed off the E A Club Champions trophy before deservedly taking it back home for the second year in a row.

A massive thank you from all at Norwich Flyers too the all the other clubs in the region that helped run what was certainly one of the best EA Club Champs in memory, We really are the best supported region !

Our thanks as ever to our project partners Norwich City Council and Barclays Spaces for Sports without whom none of this would be possible. Also thank you to club supporters Hardcore Hobbies and Streetlife Cycles for generously providing prizes for the event. Great to have you all on board.
