Braintree Club Press Releases
BMX National Rounds 11 &
12 – Bournemouth
Rounds 11 and 12 of
the 2010 National BMX series were held in Bournemouth over the
August Bank Holiday weekend and 21 riders from Braintree made the
trip to finalise their rankings for the year. The weather was
untraditionally clement for the August Bank Holiday and that made
for some superb on track action.
In the 7 year old
boys Luke Shriever had some fantastic moto results, but 5th place in
the semi finals both days saw him in the B final where he finished
1st on Saturday and 2nd on Sunday. Luke ended the season 9th overall
in the UK. Tyler Carter competed in the class in his first year of
racing and raced in the B final to a 6th on Saturday, but had to
pull out on Sunday due to wrecked wheel from a crash. He managed
25th in the rankings.
The 8 year olds
class saw Tom Stokes riding fantastically and went easily into the
semi final both days. Regrettably he could only manage 5th place
finishes which sent him into the B final both days where he finished
2nd on Saturday but breezed to the win on Sunday. Tom repeated his
ranking from last year by finishing 9th overall. Sydney Allen also
missed out on the final on Saturday with a 5th in the semis, in the
B final he finished a fantastic 5th on Saturday, but was not so
lucky on Sunday when a first straight crash saw him limp home in
6th. Sydney wound up 17th in his first full year of national
racing. Joe Read-Millard raced hard through the qualifying rounds
to a B final finish on day 1, a lucky swerve after the first
straight carnage on Sunday saw him 4th in the B final and a superb
11th overall for 2010.
The home club were
represented by Charlie Ogrady and Ollie Rowe in the 9 year olds.
They fought hard in the semi finals and then the B finals where they
crossed the line in 5th and 7th respectively on Day 1 and then they
swapped round on Day 2 with Rowe in an impressive 2nd and Ogrady in
5th. They were also close in their end of season rankings with Rowe
in 13th and Ogrady 14th. Joseph Carter also made the trip to the
south coast and finished the season 30th. Josh Peters from Codham
Park had 2 strong final finishes and wound his season up with an
awesome 3rd in the national rankings.
The 11 year olds saw
fantastic results for George Moret and who went into the A final
both days as favourite. Things weren’t meant to be though and he
settled for a 2nd and 3rd over the weekend and had a personal best
season finish in 6th. Josh Legrove also made the A final on Saturday
where he followed George home in 3rd. On Sunday Legrove took 3rd
again, but this time in the B final. Josh finished 9th overall.
Shane Redgewell made the B final where he fought to 4th both days,
and 12th overall.
The male 12’s saw
Lee Golder and Shane Pavitt battling it out all weekend. They both
went into the A final on Saturday where Lee finished 2nd and Shane
in 6th. Golder also made the A final on Sunday where he finished 4th
and brought his season to a close in 6th. Pavitt was in the B final
on Sunday which he won and took himself to 9th overall.
Taylor Andrews
represented Codham Park in the 14 year olds, he had some really
consistent laps and made the A final both days where he finished 5th
on Saturday and 7th on Sunday. Andrews managed 9th overall for the
season.
The 16 year olds saw
Christopher Potter representing Braintree. Potter won the B final on
Saturday, but stepped it up a notch on Sunday with a fantastic 5th
in the A final. Chris took 12th overall.
The 17 – 24 class
saw Ollie Cutmore finish 5th in the B final on Saturday and 15th
overall for 2010. Brad Watts had an eventful weekend where carnage
brought his race to an end on Saturday. On Sunday; Watts had more
carnage and struggled through the motos to the semis finals where he
finished 2nd. In the A final he showed real grit to take 7th. Watts
managed 21st overall.
The masters class
saw Braintree’s Julian Allen riding hard through motos into the B
final where he finished 3rd on Saturday, but he got caught up in a
first corner crash on Sunday finishing 5th. Allen reached his
season’s goal by finishing 15th overall. Jason Jessop ended his
season with a flourish by making the A final both days. He finished
7th and 5th over the weekend and 11th overall.
The ladies saw Anja
Moret in the 9-10 year old girls B final finishing 7th and 6th over
the weekend and a fantastic 14th in her first year of national
racing. Bethany Shriever continued her battles in the 11-12 year old
girls. Shriever fought her way into the A finals and finished 7th
and 6th, with an end of year ranking of number 9. The 13-14 year old
girls saw Kelsey Dixon in the B finals with 3rd and 5th place
finishes. Dixon took 11th overall for 2010.
Ollie Cutmore was on
track again in the 17-29 year old cruiser class. Cutmore shines on
the bigger wheeled bike and had 2 A final finishes of 3rd and 5th
respectively. Cutmore finished his season with an impressive 6th
place national ranking. Julian Allen also raced the bigger wheeled
bikes in the 35-39 year old class for the final round of the season.
After strong moto finishes Allen found himself in a run-off for the
A final where he narrowly missed out on the main event. He went
through to win the B final and managed an incredible ranking of 28th
after competing in only one event.
Once the dust had
settled and the points were tallied for the club rankings, Braintree
Bullets found themselves in 20th place out of 50 competing clubs. A
fantastic year was had by all of the club riders and they look
forward to the big end of season finale with the British
Championships in Cheddar over the weekend of September 18th-19th.
The final round of
Braintree BMX Club summer series will take place on Wednesday
evening, with racing from 7pm. For more information go to

National BMX racing in Braintree Rounds 7 & 8
Seventeen riders from Braintree Bullets BMX
Club made the trip to Platt Fields BMX Track in Manchester last
weekend for rounds 7 and 8 of the 2010 British Cycling National BMX
Championships. After hosting the last 2 rounds of the series, the
Bullets riders were looking to grab more points towards there end of
season national rankings. Most of the riders travelled up to
Manchester on Friday, some taking up to 8 hours in the gridlocked
motorway traffic. However, when the riders hit the track, the action
was far from stationary.
Round 7 kicked off on Saturday and the 8 year
old boys’ class saw the first of Braintree’s riders take to the
track. Tom Stokes had fantastic moto results and eased into the semi
finals where he grabbed the all important 4th place to go
through to the A final. He had his work cut out and finished 8th.
Also in the semi finals were Sydney Allen and Joe Read-Millard but
luck wasn’t on their side and they narrowly missed out on the main
race. In the consolation final Read-Millard powered his way to 5th
with Allen styling his way to 7th.
In the 9 year old boys Charlie O’Grady eased
through his motos into the semi final with club mate Olly Rowe not
far behind. Rowe fought hard in the semi and narrowly missed out on
the main event qualification spot. In the B final O’Grady finished
off a good day in 5th with Rowe hot on his tail in 6th.
They had similar finishes in round 8 on Sunday but swapped places in
the B final with Rowe in 5th and O’Grady in 6th.
George Moret looked set for an A final spot in
the 11 year old boys, but a fully stacked semi saw him just miss out
on the main event. Moret blitzed the pack in the B final though and
took the win just ahead of club mate Shane Redgewell who looked to
be returning to form in 3rd.
The sole representative for the Bullets in the
12 year old boys was Lee Golder who rode strongly all day long and
breezed into the A final. He was up with the pack from the start,
but as the riders bunched on the second straight, Golder got caught
up with another rider and went down; he remounted to finish the lap
in 8th place.
The 16 year olds saw Dexter Addington
representing Blake End bike shop; Missing Link Cycles qualifying for
the semi finals. He battled hard but missed out on the A final by 1
place. In the B final he showed his smooth style to the fore
finishing 3rd. He went one better in Sundays round 8 where his
finished 2nd in the B final.
The competitive 17-24 year old class saw Olly
Cutmore taking an early bath after missing out on the qualifying
races. Cutmore fared better though in the 17-29 year old cruiser
class where he rounded off his day with a 2nd in the B
final.
Three Braintree riders took to the track in the
Masters class. Stu Dixon and Julian Allen made too many mistakes in
their motos and missed out on the qualifiers. Jason Jessop made it
one stage further and went into a run off for the last qualifying
spot, but a huge crash put a stop to him transferring any further.
The girls were represented by Anja Moret in the
9-10 girls who finished 6th in the B final and Kelsey
Dixon rode in the 13-14 year old girls to finish 7th in
the B final.
The action in Round 8 started on Sunday morning
with Luke Shriever in the 7 year old boys. Shriever won his run off
but was unlucky in the semi and went through to the B final
finishing in 5th place.
Sydney Allen, Joe Read-Millard and Tom Stokes
once again represented the Bullets in the 8 year old boys. All of
them rode fantastically to qualify for the semi finals but they all
missed out on the top qualifying positions. Stokes chased the leader
for the whole race in the B final to take a well deserved 2nd
place followed by Read-Millard in 5th and Allen in 7th.
In the 9 year old boys; Josh Peters from Codham
Park club returned to form taking a hugely impressive 2nd
place in the A final. Other riders also riding high into the A final
were Shane Redgewell, George Moret and Lee Golder. Moret got an
uncharacteristic slow start in the 11 year old boys and finished 6th
with Redgewell just off the pace in 8th. Golder had a
much better day in the 12 year old boys finishing in 5th
place for the Bullets.
Olly Cutmore improved on his first days
performance in the 17-24 year olds class. Cutmore narrowly missed
out on an A final place, and went through to the B final finishing 5th.
He also rode in the 17-29 cruiser class where once again he narrowly
missed out on the main event; he redeemed himself by winning the B
final in fine style.
Julian Allen improved massively on his
performance in round 7 by finishing 5th in the B final to
maintain his top sixteen position in the national rankings. Just two
points separated Stu Dixon from the qualifying stage. Dixon also
rode in the 35-39 year old cruiser class where he had his seasons
best performance finishing 3rd in the B final.
Bethany Shriever joined Anja Moret and Kelsey
Dixon in the girls’ classes for round 8. Moret finished 6th
in the 9-10 year olds B final. Shriever missed the 11-12 year olds A
final by one spot and rode in the B final finishing 4th.
Dixon improved on her first days showing in the 13-14 year olds
finishing 3rd in the B final.
Olypians Liam Philips and Shanaze Reade also
rode in the Elite class of the event. Phillips showed his impressive
form by winning on day 1 but a crash took his chances on day 2.
Reade who also rode against the Elite Men had a nasty crash in the
moto stage on day 2 and returned to the event later in the day
wearing a cast on her arm.
Many of Braintrees riders will be heading to
Rounds 9 and 10 of the national championships in Gosport on 7th
and 8th Augaust hoping to gain some late season points
towards their final national rankings. Braintree Bullets continue
their club series every Wednesday night at their home track where
racing starts at 7pm and new riders are always welcome. Please go to
