EA Talent Squad Coaching Sessions  - Report 2

On Sunday the EA Academy riders travelled to Rowney Warren Woods, Chicksands for another training session. Once again academy coach Rich Townsend had devised a morning of lung busting fitness training with an MTB ride, followed by a skills session on the dual slalom and 4X tracks.

What the MTB ride lacked in distance; was made up for with descents and ascents. Short and sharpe, and bordering on the vertical, the riders worked hard on the hill climbs.

Aaron over the triples                   Bradley before wrecking the bike       Cameron - too fast for the camera!

Both Bradley Watts and Matt Kirk bike’s couldn’t take the applied torque; with crank problems and a snapped derailleur respectively. Any hope that mechanical problems would get them out of the training soon vanished, when Rich asked them to run up the hill sprint sessions. This and the treacle-like mud made for a hard and muddy workout. Fortunately Laurence “bin bag” Mapp was on hand to dish out plenty of bags for the muddy kit – thanks!

Cameron Howard, Arran Shrosbree, and Bradley Watts then hit the 4X track, and put there BMX skills into practice. Both Bradley and Arran earned respect by jumping the triples – the “holy grail” for many of the other riders there. Unfortunately Bradley’s day was cut short when he noticed the yawning crack in his frame. The down-tube was nearly severed in two!

 Another good session by Rich!
